Dante and the gnostic gospels

Hello folks.
I hope the weddding season is running smooth for the ACA crowd.
Listening to the back catalogue, I heard someone mention that a lot of the imagery used in Dante's Inferno came from books that weren't included in the Bible. I lost track of which episode of NP this came from. Could someone please let me know what book Dante was reading?
